" ATTIS scene di sogni e di danze " del 1985 è un testo dove Pes rievoca la figura ed i riti del culto di Attis, divinità di origine frigia importata nella Roma Antica, un culto dalle origini oscure legato alla Grande Madre e contraddistinto da rituali con musiche stridenti e modalità sacrificali estreme che facevano parte dei Misteri.

Ho conosciuto Aurelio quando ero appena un ragazzo nel 1978 alla discoteca dell’Opera Universitaria di Palermo che allora dirigeva, organizzando mostre ed eventi musicali. A quei tempi avevo cominciato a dipingere e realizzare collage dei quali Aurelio si innamorò e così decise di organizzarmi una mostra personale dal titolo 28 Soluzioni Pittoriche. Diventammo subito amici e per anni discutemmo dei più svariati soggetti assieme ad altri intellettuali ed artisti amici come Federico Incardona.
Lo stile è l’uomo dice il Saggio e proprio da Aurelio ho appreso uno stile preciso ed essenziale ed un gusto per il flaneurismo.
Intellettuale dalla mente scaltra e tagliente come un rasoio, Aurelio Pes è stato uno di quei rari individui che riescono a risaldare la spada spezzata e nel silenzio lasciano parlare la propria opera.
Per anni immaginammo di realizzare un’opera con testi e musica così ho iniziato a comporre in piena pandemia questo audiodramma seguendo la formula brechtiana dell’ horspiel cercando di mantenere un’essenzialità e laconicità tipiche di Aurelio.
Oltre al meraviglioso testo di Attis, un’altra fonte di ispirazione è stata la serie televisiva sull’Odissea ammirata da adolescente sugli schermi della Rai con la regia, tra gli altri, di Mario Bava, le splendide musiche di Carlo Rustichelli ed i leggendari attori Bekim Fehmiu ed Irene Papas.

"ATTIS scenes of dreams and dances" from 1985 is a text where Pes evokes the figure and the rites of the cult of Attis, a divinity of Phrygian origin imported into Ancient Rome, a cult of obscure origins linked to the Great Mother and characterized by rituals with strident music and extreme sacrificial modalities that were part of the Mysteries.

I met Aurelio when I was just a boy in 1978 at the Opera Universitaria discotheque in Palermo which he then directed, organizing exhibitions and musical events. At that time I had started to paint and make collages with which Aurelio fell in love and so he decided to organize a personal exhibition entitled 28 Pictorial Solutions. We immediately became friends and for years we discussed the most varied subjects together with other intellectuals and artist friends such as Federico Incardona.
Style is man, says the Wise, and it was from Aurelio that I learned a precise and essential style and a taste for flaneurism.
An intellectual with a shrewd mind and sharp as a razor, Aurelio Pes was one of those rare individuals who manage to re-weld the broken sword and in silence let his work speak.
For years we imagined making an opera with lyrics and music so I started composing this audio drama in the middle of the pandemic following the Brechtian formula of horspiel trying to maintain an essentiality and laconicity typical of Aurelio.
In addition to the wonderful text by Attis, another source of inspiration was the television series on the Odyssey admired as a teenager on the screens of Rai with the direction, among others, of Mario Bava, the splendid music of Carlo Rustichelli and the legendary actors Bekim Fehmiu and Irene Papas.
