During the history of music, J.S.Bach's music has been the subjet of myriads of various interpretations or in other terms different version and per-versions of his materials.
I've personally always been a big Bach fan no matter who was interpretating his music: from the great classics as Segovia, Leonhardt, Casals, Gould to Wendy Carlos and his " Well temperd synthesizer ". I would like to give my tribute to those people who has been an inspirational source for this work among them: Jacques Loussier and his Play Bach, John Lewis and the Modern Jazz Quartet, The Swingle Singers, Wendy Carlos, Glenn Gould, Cassiber, Heiner Goebbels, Ernst Bloch, Theodor W. Adorno and finally Mauricio Kagel whose piece Ludvig Van was to me the first plunderphonic work in the history of music.
Originally conceived as a radio piece, Bachstage has been realized live in many different versions as in Teatri di Vita in Bologna in 1994 under a commission of Giordano Montecchi.
The spoken texts by non actors are taken from various sources and mainly from bach letters. The texts have a lot to do with the theme of the social conditions of musicians that seems to be a major concern of J.S.Bach along with his known spiritual issues.
